At Royal Dental Clinic we have two dedicated Hygienists, who work with our clients regularly to treat gum disease and get them back on the right path to being dental healthy!

There are many causes of gum diseases.

1. Smoking

chemicals in inhaled smoke can interfere with the body’s ability to repair damaged tissues in that blood flow to an affected area can be reduced and oxygen and nutrient levels to the tissue can be limited.

2. High Blood Sugar

it can be caused by high sugar levels due to diet or health conditions such as diabetes; high sugar levels in the blood can weaken the body’s ability to fight bacteria

3. Medications

Some medication taken for epilepsy, organ transplants and some heart conditions can have the side effect of causing your gums to become enlarged which makes them more prone to gum disease. Also, some prescription medications can reduce the amount of saliva in the mouth. Saliva has an important cleansing role to play by controlling the amount of bacteria in your mouth; reduced saliva can also increase the risk of caries and decay

4. Stress

high stress levels can reduce the ability of the body to fight infection, therefore making it easier for the bacteria in the mouth to spread into the bloodstream

5. Genetics

it can be genetic, gum disease can run in families

6. Hormones/Pregnancy

hormonal changes in girls and women can make the gums more sensitive and more susceptible gum problems
